Chapter 8
Suzie
I drop into the backseat of Nickâs car. âThanks for giving me a lift.â I smile at him and Charlotte.
âHey, weâre heading the same way,â Charlotte giggles. âYouâll see, the Blue Night is epic.â
Blue Night is a party organised by emergency services, for emergency services. You are only allowed in if you are part of the fire brigade, police, ambulance, or mountain rescue. Of course, you can bring a plus one or two.
Philâs girlfriend Christina arranged for the whole team to go this time round. I declined the offer at first; Silvia is in London with Stephen, so there is nobody to watch over Max. But Christina is still suffering from a bad case of morning sickness, and Phil, who really doesnât like big crowds anyway, happily decided he would be staying with her. They both offered to watch Max, and I just couldnât resist.
Being away from Max for a whole evening is a scary thought. But I trust every single one of the FMR guys and I know he will be safe with Phil and Christina. Especially as they all know about Lucas, or at least a very condensed version that Chris gave them before instructing them on what to do if they spot him in the village. Chris even tried to convince the local police and almost got arrested after he ended up in a shouting match with the inspector, who gave us the same excuse I have heard so often before. There is no evidence that Lucas is here, so there is nothing to worry about.
âI have heard it can get quite steamy,â I say, and I wonder if I can engage Chris in a little make-out session on the dance floor. My pussy clenches at the thought.
âIt depends on who runs the event. When we hosted it, Rob decided to have all the lights off and just the odd UV light. Things did get a little out of hand. There was more snogging and dirty dancing than at an unsupervised school disco,â Nick chuckles.
Every three months, a different service hosts and turns their garages or common rooms into a makeshift nightclub. Today we are travelling to a neighbouring village where the fire brigade has cleared out their garage. They are known to throw the best bashes, so I am expecting to see a lot of people.
âAre the others meeting us there?â I ask. Chris wasnât able to pick me up as he was coming directly from a farmerâs union meeting.
We have not seen each other since Maxâs birthday last week, but we have been texting. A lot. And we had the occasional phone call that was borderline phone sex. I have decided to just go with the flow and see where it leads. If I donât, then Lucas has won because he is still controlling me.
âAlex wants to drive himself, so he and Emma can leave if it gets too much. Emma isnât a party girl,â Charlotte explains.
âAnd Tommy is giving Rob a lift. Rob never drives to events like this.
